A HARD CASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, last night. Thomas So.voll was sentenced to three months’ hard labor tor failing to comply with the order of the Court to contribute towards the support of his family. The lionovolent Society had boon giving uid to tho oxtont of 18s a week, and the man was in arrears for £29. He was in steady work, and as a rule came into town and knocked down his wages. AN ARREST. James McLaughlin, alias Singleton, was arrostod at Masterton railway station this foronoon, and brought before tho Magistrate’s Court this morning, charged with assault and robbery at Pahiatua. BIBLE READING. A fairly attondod meeting, held in the Town Hall to night, on Biblo reading in schools, was addrossed by Bishop Wallis and Revs. J. Reed, Ctlasson (of Wellington!, Earlo (Anglican), and Wood (Presbyterian). A resolution was adopted that the candidates at the elections bo asked if they are in favor of the introduction of a Bill proscribing the religious intruction and referendum question to the electors.
