SIR J. G. WARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, last night. Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, accompanied by Mr McGowan and Mr Gray, Secretary of the Post-office, arrived by mail train to-night. The Minister was welcomed by the Mayor and prominent citizens. Mr McGowan went on to Auckland. Sir J. Ward officially opens the new railway station to-morrow, and will be entertained at luncheon, and Lady Ward at an At Home by the ladies of New Plymouth. A FARMERS’ CANDIDATE.

Mr Joseph McKay, of Midhurst, has decided to contest the Egmont seat as a Government supporter and farmers’ candidate.
