PORT AWANUI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The weather this week has been beautiful, in fact real summer weather. The Omaperc arrived to-day, and was able to unload all tho Awanui cargo, which consisted of 21 tons. The sea was very smooth. Detective Nixon of Gisborne and Constable Gerrsrd of Waipiro Bay are visiting Awanui. TOKOMARU BAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Delightful weather, tho roads getting quite dry again, and work of all kinds making good progress has been the order since last writing. As showing the stato of the road between here and Gisborne, a traveller reached hero yesterday evening about six o’clock, having left Gisborne at nine o’clock in tho mornmg. Shearing starts on Tokomaru run this week.
A meeting was held on Saturday night at the To Puka Hotel to arrange for sports on Boxing-day. Mr Shepherd was in the chair. A strong committee was elected, and posters are to be got out immediately. The sports committee have THO in hand, which has been set apart to be spout in putting in order a recreation ground, this ground was promised a long time ago, but difficulties have boon put in tho way, and we are still without a ground ; this is anothor matter that we may fairly expect to havo consideration given to now tho election is coming on. Tho Clydsdaio ontiro mentioned in the Timks last wock reached here safoly in Mr \Y. Fletcher’s charge, and has beon greatly admired by all who havo seen him.
WAIPIRO BAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A committee meeting of tho Waipiro Cricket Club was held on tho ground on Saturday afternoon to appoint a selection committee and pass payment of accounts. The contract secured by Air J. Sadlior for fencing and laying out of cricket ground being completed, the committee then inspected the same, and expressed themselves thoroughly satisfied with tho way Mr Sadlior had overcome many difficulties and levelled oil' a really good cricket ground. The Aotea arrived here this morning, delivering her cargo. Weather boautiful, sea calm.
Mr Kelly, lineman, has, during the pust week, beon fixing up now telephones at Makarika, Ihungia, Tukapau, and Mutahia stations.
