The Carnival.

(To the Editor of the Times.)

Sir, —Will you kindly allow me to let off a few growls anont tho abovo. First: I think tho Secretary of the Fund, or some leading citizen of Gisborne, might have given the general public the opportunity, before they left tho ground, of expressing their appreciation of the kindness and liberality of Mr and Mrs Ciesar and the ladies of Ormond, by calling for and responding to hearty cheers Mr them, instead of leaving that to be done among the swells only at the ball. Secondly : I think tbo kind services of tho gentleman (Air Gittos, I think) who so materially contributed to the day's enjoyment with his gramaphone, might havo been suitably acknowledged by the press. Thirdly: I think tho services of our worthy representative of the law, Constable Farmer, a veteran, too, with medals, might have sufficed for good order and decorum on tho ground, and I hopo that Sergeant Siddells and his staff only came out for their own enjoyment. Lastly, and not least to myself personally, I think my wife’s name might havo been given in the

list of the Ormond Ladies Committee. Many, I am sure, will bear me out that she worked harder and at a more unpleasant job than two-thirds of the eighteen whoso names wore published. I can only hope that the omission was unintentional, though no other lady’s name seems to have been forgotten.—l am, etc., F. C. Leggett. Ormond, October 13. [Mr Leggott is to bo thanked for calling attention to the omissions, which, of course, were unintentional.]
