ST. KILDA MURDER.
A COOL VILLAIN. A MIDDAY TRAGEDY. By Telegraph—Prose Association—Copyright Melbourne, Oct. 18. Tho following are further particulars of tho murder of Constable Johnson : A man interfered with a little girl wheeling a perambulator at St. Kilda. At her mother s request, Johnson went in pursuit on a bicycle, and was shot dead as he approached, the murderer threatening witnesses of tiie tragedy with a similar fate if they followed him. He coolly walked away, two constables tracking him. He turned, evidently intending to fire, but, changing his mind, blew his own brains own. The tragedy occurred at midday, and caused a great- sensation. (Roccivod 10.30 p.m.) Aftor Constublo Johnson was shot ho continued pedalling his bicycle till bo dropped deal from tho machine. Tho mniUerer suicided most determinedly and cuully, inflicting a torriblo wound in his tiiroat with a pocket knife. Ho then sonb a bullet through his brain as tho constablo closed with him. A complaint had previously been mado in regard to his interfering with childreh, and Constable Johnson bad spoken to him on the subjoct.
