THE TARAWERA

A ROUGH TRIP

The last two trips of the steamer Tarawera have been protracted ones. On too voyage up to Auckland the breaking of an eccentric rod caused considerable delay. The steamer left again for Gisborne at 2.30 on Saturday afternoon, and experienced a very rough trip, which meant a delay of several hours beyond the ordinary steaming time. The Tarawera passed the East Cape at a-quarter past one yesterday afternoon, which meant that she would not reach Gisborne until a late hour, and as a very high sea was running in the Bay Mr Cramond decided to give instructions to the steamer co stand by until the morning, it being very dangerous to attempt to tender her last night. Arrangements were made to tender the Tarawera at five o'clock this morning, by which time the sea should have considerably abated.
