MADAME MELBA. It is definitely certain that Madamo Melba will tour New Zealand, giving one concert in c-acli of the chief centies. Mr George Tallis, Mr J. G. Williamson's representative, who passed through Auckland by the mail steamer Sierra yesterday, informed a Herald representative that Herr Bcnno Seherek will accompany Melba as manager, iiis services having been lent to Mr George Musgrove by Mr Williamson for tho tour.

AN OVERDUE BARQUE. There is as yet no news regarding the barqueTiimini. which =ailcd from Lyttelton for kaipara on August IG, and is therefore 35 days out. It was announced on the 11th inst. that the barque was then overdue, and that anxiety was being felt regarding her, but although some shipping authorities are inclined to the opinion that an accident bad occurred to the vessel, others thought that the captain of tho barque had gone north about, and had probably been blown off the land by the prevailing winds, and the vessel being in ballast trim, could not work back to the coast. Tho barque Elverland, which sailed from Lyttelton in company with the Timaru, arrived at Kaipara on August 27. The last seen of tho Timaru was by the schooner Morning L’ght, about 10 miles east of Kaikoura Peninsula, on August 24. Tho non arrival of the barque at her destination has now caused the keenest anxiety for the safety of tho vessel and those on board, for taking all things into consideration she should have made port before this time if an accident of some sort had not overtaken her.
