115 LIVES LOST. SAD ENDING TO NEGRO CONVENTION. By Telegraph. Press Association. Copyright New York, Sept. 20. After Booker Washington’s address to tho Negro National Convention in tho Baptish Church, Birmingham, Alabama, a fire was raised. A Btampede occurred. The exits became blocked, and a number of people walked on tho heads of tho crowd. One hundred and fifteen were killed, the majority being smothered. Many other Negroes were injured.
