PHYSICAL DRILL IN SCHOOLS. By Tolegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. Tho Education Department is preparing manuals of physical drill and woodwork and cardboard modelling for use in tho schools throughout the colony. Physical drill is now compulsory, but the manual is merely suggestive work. Teachers will bo permitted to use other books of instruction, if they sorvo tho purpose. The manuals will be ready at an early dato.
EPIDEMIC OF MEASLES,
Tho epidemic of measles and scarlet fovor, which has prevailed in tho city for several weeks, is very widespread, and calls for more timo and attention than tho limited stall of the Health Department can afford. The City Council has, therefore, placed the sevices of one of its officials at the disposal of the Department for some weeks.
SUGAR BEET,
A Government analyist, reporting on samples of sugar beet grown at Hamilton, says the beet seems to contain an unusually high percentage of sugar.
