HAWKE’S BAY EDUCATION BOARD.
By Telograph—Press Association. Napier, last night. At the Educate; t; Board meeting to day a vote of condolence and sympathy with the family of tho late A. J. CoMerill, Board’s solicitor for many years, was passed. Makauri: The application for tho enlargement of the school was deferred until October.
Ormond : Tenders to be called for teacher’s residence. Patutabi; Tho Board’s solicitors wrote with regard to tho question as to tho right of the teacher to graze horses on tho school reserve. They state that tho occupation of master is ono of sufferance only-, and if the property was vested in tho Board he must abide by the directions of tho Board. It was decided that a reply be sent to tho Committee that tho Board sees no reason to interfere in the present arrangement. Portland Island : Mr Dixon resigned at the request of tho committee. , Karaka : A complaint re harsh treatment of some of tho children by tho headmaster was received.
Wakarara: The Committee have declined to withdraw their resignation.—lt was decided to advertise the olection. Waipiro Bay : No plans have yet been deposited for the site of the new school, although the money for the building is available. Waorenga-a-hika : A request that the master be removed was referred to Mr Hill. The Department having asked for the estimated cost of making the Gisborne teachers’ residence habitable, and Mr Quigley having reported that the buildings wero hardly worth repairing, tho Board recommended that tho building be sold.
The Gisborne District High School Board of Governors forwarded the sum of £sl as fees. Tho following notico of motion was given for next meeting: “ That forms similar to those adopted by tho Wanganui Education Board be sent from the Board’s office to headmasters throughout the district, such forms to be filled up showing tho number of children failing to make tho necessary attendance. That on receipt of such return notico be sent from the office to the parents and guardians of those children, and that all the necessary steps be taken to ensure attendance.”
