CONCERT AT ORMOND
On Thursday evening tho Gisborno Mutual Improvement Society journeyed to Ormond, where they gave a very enjoyable concert, which was followed by a dance. There was a very fair audience, notwithstanding tho inclemency of the weather, and those who braved tho elements wero amply rewarded, everything passing off in a most satisfactory manner. Tho following programme was gone through, each item being warmly applauded :—Overture, orchestra, under the leadership of Mr J. H. Gittos. Mr Don’s singing of 11 That is a woman’B s way ” was much enjoyed. Mr Ellerbeck rendered “ Sweet Rosie O’Grady” in good style. “ The Valley by the Sea " was sung in charming style by Mias Poswiilo. Mr Doyle’s rendering of " His Lordship winked at the counsel" waa excellent, and was encored. Song, “ The Ways of Men,” by Miss Golding, waa received with great enthusiasm. Mr P, Sheridan gave those present quite a treat with his humorous recitations, and had to respond to numerous encores. The chmedy, “ Funnibones Fix,” was then staged by Misses Birrell, Davis, Messrs Sheridan, Oxenham, Ellerbeck, and East. Like their initial performance of this charming comedy, tho audience were kept in roars of laughter, great credit being due to each one of those clever artists.
Mr J. Adair was to tho fore and gave no end of amusement with his concert gramaphone, it being no small item of the programme. Those who had not heard this wonderful instrument, were simply astounded by the clearness of the reproductions, and it is a very short while back, when few thought they would have the chance of hearing such world-famed performers as clearly as if they were singing on the platform. A dance followed, and a safe return to town was made at 2 a.m., everybody having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
