FATAL ACCIDENT.

Christchurch, last nighC An elderly man fell off the platform of the carriage of a train in Lyttelton tunnel this afternoon, and his right arm was cut off at the elbow by the carriage wheel. He was taken to the Lyttelton casual ward, where he said that his name was J. M. Clark, but He refused to give any further information about himself. Ha died at 7.30. Papers found on him show that he came to Christchurch from Dunedm. He was a shearer, and has been in almost all parts of New Zealand, as well as in Australia. Two boys saw him go out on to the platform after the train had gone about two chains into the tunnel. Later on, they felt a bump, as if the train had run over something, and reported the matter to the guard. The engine was sent back from Lyttelton, and the man picked up in the tunnel.
