A motion for the committal of the State Coal Mines Act Amendment Bill was agreed to on the voices. The House went into Committee on the Mining Act Amendment Bill. A long discussion took place on clause 2, which provides for the granting of a lease ofiron deposit at Parapara, in Nelson district. Objection was raised that the clause was in the interests of the proposed iron syndicate, but in reply to this it was contended that inducements should be held out to the syndicate to work theso deposits. Midnight.—ln Committee on the Mining Act Amendment Bill an amendment was carried that the State may purchase the property mentioned in clause 2 at a fair valuation. Discussion on the Bill is still proceeding.
