ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY’S CONCERT.

There was a miserable night for the concert last night in support of the funds of the town clock, and the audience was not large, though it was very appreciative, and a splendid programme was given. The Orchestra, under Mr Palairet, were as successful as on tho previous occasion, and the selections were very much enjoyed. The vocalists were Miss Winifred Birch and Mr F. J. Teat. The lady vocalist was again heard to great advantage, and douolo encores would hardly satisfy the delighted audience. Miss Birch sang “ Call Me Back ” and “ The Swallows,” with encore numbers, and Mr Teat sang “ Dream Angel,” and “ Admiral’s Vigil,” with “ Asleep in the Deep ” as an encore, the latter especially being very popular. The concert was certainly a great success musically. The Mayor made a short speech warmly appreciative of the efforts of tho Society and its able and enthusiastic conductor, Mr Palairet. Though the general public had not faced the stormy elements in large numbers, those who were to give the concert had all attended, and had certainly succeeded in providing a most enjoyable entertainment. His Worship’s appreciative remarks were warmly applauded.
