THE APARIMA FIRE.
By Telegraph—Presß Association—Copyright Albany, Aug. 22. The work of suppressing tho fire on the s.s. Aparims. is proving difficult. Constant Btreams of water are being directed on tha burning masses of coal. On Wednesday night assistance was rendered by the dredge and good headway made, but at 4 o’clock in the morning tha flames again blazed up, and assistance had to bo summoned from the shore. Bast. night there was over ten feet of water in the well of the vessel, and sho has settled down on to tho harbor bottom, which is very soft.
Mr F. C. Cramond, local agent of tha Union Company, yesterday received tha following advice from headquarters:— “ Latest advice re Aparima is that the fire in the hold has been extinguished, and tha fire in the bunkers is being subdued. It is still impossible to tell the extent of the damage, but as soon as this can be ascertained will advise you.”
