AUSTRALIA V. KENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Aug. 21. Tho Australians in their first innings scored 154. The Australians commenced their match against Kent at Canterbury with brilliant weather. Tho wicket was in excellent condition. The attendance at the opening was four thousand. Seymour was included in tho local toarn, and Humphreys and Dillon omitted. Kelly, Howell, and Jones stood out of the Australians.
Tho Australians won tho toss, and Trutnpor and Duff oponed. When the formor had made 15 he got leg bofore to Mason. Ono for 37. Ilill contributed eight aud was bowled by Hoarue. Two for 52. Darling totted up six and was caught at long-off by Burnip. Three for 60. Noble followed, and played very fast oricket, making 43, while Duff addod eight. When 30 Duff was run out. Ho nearly played tho ball on. Noble callod and ran and Hirst tried to knock bis wicket down, and missed tho batsmon’s stumps and knocked down tho opposite wickets. Four for 112. Tho noxt two wickets fell without an addition to tho score. Gregory was given out log-before to Blytho. Noble was run out. Armstrong contributed a single, and was caught by Bradloy. Seven for 117. With eight to his credit Trumble, playing forward, was stumped by Hirst. Eight for 140. • The attendance after lunch incroasod to 8000. Hopkins, with lively play, put together 24, and was thon dismissed by Seymour with an easy catch in tho slips. Nino for 147.
Saunders added a couplo, and was bowled by Hearno, Carter carrying his bat out for 6. Tho scores were : Australians —lst innings. Burnip and Mason oponed for the County, and tho former had scored six when ho was bowled by Trumble. Ono for 6.
With tho total at 80, Saundors found Mason’s timbors. Tho bowling of both was admirable. Two for 30. Tho scores are : England—lbl innings. Burnip, b Trumble 6 Mason, b Saundors 7 Day, not out 13 Day added another soven, and then went log before to Trumble. Throo for 50. Marsam was bowled by Trumblo. Four for 56. Hearne joined Soymour, but was bowled for a duck. Fivo for 66. The scores are : Day, lbw, Trumpor 20 Soymour, not out 17 Marsam, b Trumblo 2 Hearne, b Trumblo ... 0 In their first innings, KoD.t mado 77. The noxt two wickets fell at 64. The eighth wicket fell at 76. Tho innings occupied an hour and three-quarters. Tho scores were : Soymour, not out 26 Merchant, b Trumblo 8 Blakor, b Trumblo 0 Huish, lbw, b Trumblo 3 Blythe, run out 1 Bradloy, c Hill, b Trumble C Sundries 4 Bowling analysis: Trumblo, oight for 30; Saunders, ono for 43 ; Armstrong, none for 0.
The Australians had lost one wickot for 8 runs whon stumps were drawn, tho scores being: Duff, b Blythe 5 Armstrong, not out 1
The team sails on Septombor 20th. They play a month in South Africa, and arrivo in Australia on December 3rd. They aro anxious to knov/ if matches can be played at Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane on their return.
