To-day is the last discount day for gas accounts.

Mr E. 11. Taylor will deliver a limelight lecture on '• the wreck of the Wairarapa ” at the Theaf.o lioyal this evening. Captain Edwin wired at 1.20 p.m. yesterday : “ Moderate to strong westerly winds ; glass rise ; tides moderate.” The monthly meeting of the Hospital Trustees will be held at the Hospital tonight at 7.30. With to-day’s Tim its is given an inset in the form ot a flower and vegetable seed catalogue, issued by Mr J. Walter Bull, of Gisborne.

Messrs Williams and Kettle’s monthly stock sale takes place to-morrow. The entries include a hundred head of cattle, and some good lines of sheep.

The bowling tournament to bo held on Tuesday evening next, and following nights, should draw a largo attendance. The City Band will provide music. Under Major Steward’s Licensing Quorum Bill, the quorum is reduced to three members when the chairman is present, or four in his absence. Ladies are reminded of the second “ Nursing ” lecture, to be delivered tonight by Dr. Fisher, at the Wesleyan schoolroom at half-past seven. Owing to the contractors having insufficient time to prepare their tenders for the removal and erection of buildings in Lowe street, an extension of time lias been granted from the 20th to the 22nd inst. A final rehearsal for the Gisborne Orchestral Society’s Concert takes place at the schoolroom this evening. The concert has been fixed for Friday night, and should attract a largo attendance. At the Borough Council meeting last night Cr Whinray made a strong protest against the inclusion of the Waikatiae in the proposals to be submitted in the referendum on the band rotunda. Mr T. Ritchio has so far recovered from his protracted illness as to bo able to leave for ltotorua to try the mineral baths. He leaves by the To Auau this morniug, accompanied by Mrs Ritchio. Great interest is being taken in the Military Ball which is to bo hold in the Theatre Royal tomorrow evening. Tickets may bo obtained from any Volunteer, or from Quartermaster-Sergeant Eliott and Sergeant Cruikshank, the hon. secretaries.

The Magistrate yesterday morning was engaged in hearing tho caso of W. H, Tucker v. H. Boavis, claim for £35 18s 9d, rent and interest. Mr W. D. Lysnar appeared for plaintiff and Mr R. N. Jones for defendant. The case was one arising out of a disputo between landlord and tenant, and several legal points were raised and argued. His Worship reserved judgment in the matter.

Mr Geo. McGregor, Government Inspector of Machinery, is at present visiting Gisborne. He lias been busily engaged during the last two or threo day's at the Gisborno and Taruheru freezing works, and has also inspected a portion of the Kia-Ora factory plant. Mr McGregor, who is staying at the Albion Hotel, remains in this district until tho end of the week.

At the meeting of tho Borough Council last night a letter was received from Mr W. F. Crawford, asking tho Council to accept photos of old and new Gisborne as a record of Coronation Day. The gift was received with applause. Cr Jones moved that tho offer ho accepted with thanks, saying that such an appropriate gift to tho Council came well from Gisborno’s first Mayor. Cr Harding seconded the motion, and tho Mayor and Councillors roferred in pleasing terms to the gift.

A presentation of a. pleasing nature took place at a meeting of tho members of the Star of New Zealand Rechabitos’ Tont last evening, when Bro. M. G. Nasmith, Past Chief Ruler, was tho recipient of a handsome morocco-bound album. The presen'tation was rnado in view of Bro. Nasmith’s approaching marriage. Sister E. Birch, Chief Ruler, referred to the excellent ser vices that Bro. Nasmith had rendered to tho Tent, ho being one of the founders and at present one of the trustees. She hoped that the small gift which he was receiving would remind him of tho many happy gatherings they had spont, and the Tent wishod him and his intended long life and happiness. Bro. Nasmith thanked tho members very heartily for tho gift, which came upon him as a complete surprise. Ho appreciated their kindness, and hoped the Tent would continue to prosper.
