FIFTY CASES OF SICKNESS,
TWO DEATHS.
MEN TO BE LANDED,

Tho troopship Montroso moored in tho Gulf at night and entered the port this morning. Tho Health Officers went off at 9 a.m., and the inspection will last several hours.
The vessel is flying a signal “ sickness on board.”
The pilot reports that tho delay on tho trip down the coast was caused by a breakdown in the engine room. No communication with the vossel has been permitted. A later report from tho Montroso states tliero are thirteen ensos of scarlatina and pnoumoniu. Thirty-seven othors aro on the sick list. Tho Montroso will be docked horo, and tho southern contingent will bo forwarded by the coastal steamers. Lator.—Tho troopship Montroso has been ordered to tho quarantine station. It is reported that sho will land thoro fifty men.
No communication is allowed with tho ship.

The Montroso has forty-nine troopers ill with scarlatina and ono of tho crow with measles. Tho sick will bo loft at tho quarantine station and looked after tliorc. Tile rest of the troopers will he landed, while tho vessel and clothing are fumigated, after which it is understood the Auckland troopers who are well will be allowed their liberty and tho troopship will proceed with tho southern Contingents.
There woro two deaths on tho Montroso. Tho names nro not obtainableTho names of thoso who diod on tho Montroso are Manning and EarriorSergenut A’Court. Tho districts to which thoy belong aro not montioned. Auckland, last night.
It has been learned by telephone from Motuihi that tho names of tho Montroso troopers who died during the voyage from Albany aro Manning and A. Court. Tho latter is a farrier sergeant. Tho names of tho districts to which tho deceased bolong aro not available, hub it is boliovod that both aro Southerners. TROOrERS SERIOUSLY ILL.

troopors most seriously ill, whoso condition made it necessary that thoy should bo taken to tho Auckland Hospital, instead of being loft at Motuihi: 9291 C. R. James, 9416 A. Smiley, 8693 R. Graham, 0694 Sliellock, 9000 J. Plata, 8798 G. S. Beattio (Auckland Section), 9305 C. Manson (Lyttelton), 9609 Gaffney, 8829 D. Jackson, 8932 Corporal P. J. Courer (Auckland Section), 9302 J. T. Moredith, 8923 Bl.ydo, 8702 Stafford, 3644 Petherick, 8687 Doyle. All theso aro suffering from pneumonia, except Manson, who has developed scarlet fever following on pneumonia, and with the exception of Meredith, who has expressed a wish to bo taken to his home in tho South, thoy will find accommodation in tho Auckland Hospital. The doctors state that thoro is no immediate probability of any deaths occurring, but the condition of A. Graham, Beattio, and Manson is considered rather critical. In addition to thoso mentioned above four whose cases aro not so serious havo been loft on the ship through ono reason or another, and they will also bo taken to thG hospital, viz., Ilarkncss, Wilkinson, Kerr, and ITawkesworth.
In addition to tbeso there are 49 sick and convalescent men left on Motuihi, and seven go to their homes in the s.s. Montrose. Tho total sick is 74.
