EDUCATION BOARD.

Napier, last night,

At the meeting of the Education Board to-day, Thomas Tanner was unanimously elected Chairman.

The Secretary submitted a statement showing that the amount to the credit of the Board was £3929, but when liabilities had been met the balance was only £54, and when accounts passed at that day’s meeting had been paid there would be a debit balance.

A Finance Committee was set up, consisting of all the members. Messrs McLernon, Fitzrov, Johnson, and Westall were appointed a selostion committee in connection with the protest of the Spit Committee against the Board withholding the names of applicants for the headmastership holding D certificates. It was resolved that the matter of the appointment of headmaster be referred back to the selection committee, with the instruction that the names of suitable applicants holding D, Dl, and higher certificates be sent in to the Spit Committee.

Matawhero’s application for tanks was held over till October, also Makauri’s application for additions. Ormond's application for increased allowance to the Committee was refused at present, being according to scale.

Patutahi: Tho Board’s solicitor to be asked as to the teacher’s right to graze a horse in the School grounds.

Te Arai : Miss Baigent was appointed mistress.

Tolago Bay was granted £6 for fasciuing.

Waerenga a hika’s application for a new teacher’s residence was held over till October.

Gisborne, Napier, and Waipukurau wore recommended to the Department as suitable centres for instructing teachers in drill.

The tender of Messrs Mackrell and Colley for additions to the Tolago Bay School, at £335, was accepted.
