PARLIAMENTARY.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

The Council met at 2.30.

A resolution was passed on the motion of Mr Jones, asking the Government in view of the alarming reports of the Inspector of Police and the City Engineer of Wellington, as to the seriously unsatisfactory condition of a large number of hotels in Wellington to take steps to secure such reforms as may be necessary.

The Statutes Repeal Bill and Loan B: passed the final stages.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

The House met at 2.30 p.m,

On the motion of Mr Witheford a resolution was passed expressing heartfelt sympathy with the relatives of members of the New Zealand contingents who had died since their return to the colony. The final report of the Representation Commissioners was laid on the table. A long discussion ensued, in which several members protested against the report, and the system under which the electoral boundaries are adjusted. Several local Bills passed tho final stages.

The House went into Committeo-of-Supply for consideration of Estimates shortly before the dinner adjournment. In committee on tho Estimates a long discussion took place on the subject of the outbreak of anthrax and the necessity of properly sterilising imported bones. Tho Agricultural Department’s estimates passed unaltered. The votes for the Railway Department, Public School Buildings, and Police Department wore passed practically without discussion.
