NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Stratford, last night. The National Dairy Association held their annual meeting in Stratford yesterday and to-day, Mr J. Harkness, tho President, in tho chair. The report and balance-sheet woro adopted. Messrs McFarlano and Young wore appointed to vacancies on tho directorate. Mr Harkness was again appointed President. A resolution was passed protesting against the income-tax on tho wholo dairy factory machinery, and if it was not to bo removed that 10 per cent, bo allowed, and no tax charged on depreciation. Mr Dive moved that the meeting approvo of the present method of branding boxes for export, and considers any modification prejudicial to the best interests of the dairy industry, and recognises that the high position of Now Zealand produce in the Home market is duo principally to the system of supervision and branding now in foi'flo in tho colony. After discussion, the exporters advocating the right to special brands, tho resolution was carried. A motion was passed to finance tho Association, each factory giving a promissory note according to the output, etc.: 100 tons, £lO ; 101 to 200 tons, £2O: over 200 tons, £3O. At present the Association is working on the guarantee of the executive.

The President moved that the Government bo urged to appoint a grader in the Home market to inspect colonial produce. This was carried with general support. A now form of contract between vendor and purchaser was drawn up. To-day, papers were to be read by the Commissioner and staff.

The Conference concluded its meeting at noon. A resolution protesting against the inspection of stockyards was lost, and an amendment approving of the system was carried. The Dairy Commissioner refused to read papers owing to the small attendance of managers and farmers.
