Band Contest.
(To the Editor of the Times.)
Sir, —It is with pleasure that I learn it is the intention of one of our local bands to competo at tho forthcoming band contest some time early next year at, I believe, Masterton. It is my intention to carefully watch tho progress of the contest band, and with your permission, Mr Editor, I will give my impressions from timo to time of thoir progress. Now, why Bhould not a really good representative band bo sent from this district, ombodying members of both tho City and Whataupolco bands ; that is to say pick the really good men from both and form a band where every man can give an intelligent interpretation of his part, and thus secure a better finish to tho contest, selections, etc. I think in this way Gisborno would have a better show of getting “ placed ” at the contest. I believe tho Whataupoko bandmaster has had considerable experience ; and he certainly has worked wonders with his present band, and if he could be induced to take command success might safely bo assured.—l am, etc., “ Stringendo.”
