Two for 107. Perrin and McGahey scored freely. The latter was eventually caught in the slips by Noble, after a brilliant display of hitting. Three for 178. Tho luncheon adjournment was then taken. On resuming, Perrin and Ivortright brought the total up to 184, when tho innings was declared closed. The scores are : Fane, b Trumble 17 Lucas, b Trumble 50 Perrin, not out 58 McGahoy, c Noble, b Jones 59 Kortright, not out 0 Total for three wickets 184 Bowling analysis: Trumble, two for 81, Saunders nil for 4, Noble nil for 43, Jones one for 56. The Australians then commenced their second innings. Trumper and Dull opened, but the latter had only scored 7, when Young, with a good ball, took his middle-stump. One wicket for 15. Hill and Trumper indulged in steady batting, and when the total had passed lialf-a-century the scoring became freer. Hill, passing Trumpet’s score, gave a skyer to McGahoy, at extra mid-off. The partnership and the second wicket put on 101. Darling joined Trumper, but the captain was bowled by Mead shortly after getting into double figures. Three for 158. Duff, b Young 7 Hill, c McGahey, b Young 59 Darling, b Mead 13 Gregory filled the vacancy, and assisted Trumper in completing his century, and carrying the total well beyond the second hundred. With 20 to his credit, he was nicoly caught by Russell behind the stumps off Reeves. Four for 220. Trumper was next to go, getting legbefore to Reeves. He was two and a-half hours at the wickets, and played a superb innings, without giving a single chance. Hill, playing good, steady cricket, had ably seconded him. Five for 237. Hopkins came and went without altering the score. Trumble and Kelly carriod on the score.
