WANGANUI’S WATER SUPPLY.
MB MESTAYEB’S SCHEME APPBOVED OF.

For tho past two years tho Wanganui Borough Council has had under consideration various schemes for augmenting the prosont wator supply to tho town. A few months ago Mr E. L. Mestayer, of Wellington, was engagocl to report fon the Okohu stream, over fifteon miles from the town, as a sourco of supply. The report came to hand on. Tuesday, and to-night the Council, at a special meeting, decided to approve of tho scheme formulated by Mr Mestayeix The cost of a gravitation scheme to supply one million gallons per day is estimated at .£50,000, exclusive of tho purchase of 1700 acres of the land from which the water is drained. A poll qf the ratepayers will be taken as to the advisability of raising a loan of between JE60,000 and j£Bo,ooo, the exact sum to be determined later on.
