Palmerston North News.

Palmerston North, last night. At the annual meeting of tho Chamber of Commerco, the retiring President, Mr M. Cohen, ndvoented a readjustment of customs duties so as to encourage tho importation of woollen goods us against cotton goods, and so creuto a better market for the New Zealand wool-grower. The Chamber discussed tho question of State fire insurance, but did not como to any decision on tho matter. Mr E. N. Barraud was elected President. At the meeting of tho Colonial Executive of the Union, hold at Palmerston North to-day, it was resolved that tho head office ho in Palmorston North, and Mr W. Hunter was appointed general secretary to tho Union; and Mr A. E. Russell ns general treasurer. Tho Poultry Association’s show concluded to-night. It has been a groat succoss. Tho Association has purchased a freehold section in town, and intend to go in for tho commercial aspeot of the poultry industry.
