UNIVERSITY EXAMINATIONS,

Wellington, last night. The Now Zealand University will in November next hold exams for degrees and admission to the legal profession, in Napier. SUPERANNUATION SCHEME. A large deputation of persons interested in educational matters waited upon the Minister of Education, and urged the desirability of introducing the superannuation scheme for school-teachers. Mr Smeaton, of the Otago Educational Institute, explained the provisions of a draft Bill for giving effect to a superannuation fund for teachers, which provides for payment at the rate of 2J- per cent, of salary by teachers of 20 to 30 years of age, to 5 per cent, by those between 50 and 60 years of age. Mr Walker, in reply, said that if upon investigation he found that the scheme could be put on a successful financial basis, he would have great pleasure in submitting it to his colleagues. Personally, he had every sympathy with the object of the deputation, and would be glad if something could be done this vear.
POST AND TELEGRAPH APPOINTMENTS.
A large number of promotions and transfers have been arranged to take effect immediately in the Post and Telegraph Department. The Chief Postmaster at Blenheim (Mr John Bull) retires on a pension, and will be succeeded by Mr Nr Northcroft, at present Postmaster at Tauranga. 3lr Halliday is to promoted from Balclutha to the Postinastership at Tauranga, and Mr White (Postmaster at Buns, Baneitikei) goe3 to Balclutha. Mr Ashton, senior cisrk and operator at Botorua, is to be promoted to Bulls, and the senior clerk at Masterton (Mr Turner) is to be transferred to Pmtorua. Mr H. H. Cork is to be transferred from Oamaru to Masterton. Mr McHutchison, chief clerkin the General Post Office, Christchurch, replaces Mr Stevens at the Thames, Mr Stevens having been promoted to Nelson. Mr J. J. Green, who has beep temporarily I attached to the G.T.0., Wellington, beI comes Postmaster at Port Nelson, and Mr j A. D. Glimett, now stationed at Mongouui, becomes Postmaster at 1-oxton, replacing Mr McDermott, who has bceD transferred to Waimate, South Canterbury. Mr P. P. White, Postmaster at T'emuka, has been transferred to Marton. Mr G. G. Woon, senior mail clerk at Wanganui, becomes chief clerk at Nelson, whilst Mr C. A. Seymour, senior operator at Nelson, takes charge of the telegraph branch
