MR LAMB’S THRILLING EXPER-
lENCES.
FAMILY’S NARROW ESCAPE FROM BURNING .WHARE,

AUCKLAND, last night, Fiji papers contain particulars of trials at the Suva Supreme Court of Indian coolies for murderous attacks on plantation overseers, At Ha, an Indian named Shankar was sentenced to ten years’ penal servitude for wounding with intent to murder Mr K. 11. ‘Sweet land at itarawi, 15a., ,S wee Hand was terribly injured by a. cane knife by prisoner, and had to have his left hand amputated. The assault occurred last November. For another affair, wounding Mr C. 11. Lam!? and Mr J. W. Sadlier, on the Na Vatu estate, three Indian laborers received sentences of six years, four years, and two years: hard labor. In the assault on Lamb, three men a ttacked him last month while he was going round the linen inspecting. lie was knocked down and beaten very severely. The men then left for their houses to get; the ; r 'knives. Lamb climbed up a mango tree. Two of the men had started to climb the tree after him when help came. A lire occurred in a whare near Nclherton, occupied by Mr .Tames Richmond, his wife, and their two children. They wero awakened by tno roof of (lie whare falling in on them. The building was in a blaze. Mrs Richmond managed to get out with her infant, and Mr Richmond saved the Tittle hoy. They were all badly burned excepting the infant.
