LATE NEW ZEALAND.

Ashburton, last night. Information has just been received that a fire has occurred, by which the house recently occupied by Mr S, Curd, near Ashburton, was totally destroyed on Wednesday evening. There was no insurance on the building, which was the property of tho County Council. The house was old, and Messrs Brown and MacDonald, builders, had just taken timber to repair it.

H. Crump has been remanded to appear at Christchurch on three charges of forgery, and has been committed to trial at the next Supremo Court on two charges of forging and uttering.
