DeCosta writes: “ Itis just what is required.” Dr Colo writes: "You arc at liberty to enter my name as a subscriber to the above fund for tho sum of one guinea. As far as the affairs of this world go, it was not a bad suggestion that the site of | the landing of Captain Cook on these shores should bo marked by some memorial.” Tho following communication has been received from a lady of tbe district: “It is with tho greatest of pleasuro I learn of tho movement to establish a memorial to tbe brave navigator who discovered Now Zealand, and who landed first at Gisborne. It has often surprised me that steps in the direction now being taken had not previously been attempted. As one who has resided in the district for over 30 years, it gives me pleasure to forward a small subscription to such a worthy object.”
