DIOCESIAN SYNOD.

Wellington, last night. The Anglican Diocesan Synod to-day passed a resolution placing on record its deep sorrow at tho loss the Church had Buffered by the death of Bishop Cowie, and expressing appreciation of the long and faithful services rendered by him during his opiscopale. A committee was set up to draw up a scheme to make the Church’s influence moro practically effective in the temperance work. AN APPOINTMENT. Mr 0. G. Adams, at prosont director of tho School of Mines at Stawell, Victoria, has boon appointed Director of tho Thames School of Minos. Mr Adams, who received his training at tho Otago School of Mines and Mount Zeehan, is tho youngest son of Mr C. W. Adams, Chief Surveyor, of Marlborough. CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. A conference of delegates from tho Sawmills and Timboryards Unions, representing two thousand unionists, has opened here. The principal questions to bo discussed will bo the basis of federation and preference of employment to unionists.
