IMPROVED SUBMARINE.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, July 10. An improvod submarino 100 foot in length was launched at Barrow-ou-Fur-ncss. It is the joint invention of the firm of Vickers, Son, and Maxim and tiro Admiralty.

It dives in a few seconds, and is fitted with Grubb’s apparatus for steering under water, which is an improvement on tho French periscope. It is navigated whon on tho surface liko a torpedo bout, hut is less visible. It is able to form up in lino of battle, instead of being employed on purely coast services. It can assume tho defensive, and is expected to provo tho finest submarino afloat.
