LATE COAST NEWS.
THE OMAPERE.
The Union Co.’s s.s. Oinapere (Captain Chrisp) arrived from Auckland, via Coastal ports, last ovening. Tho steamer worked Waipiro, Tokornaru, and Tolago Bav yesterday, loaving the latter place at 6.3 Q last ovening. Messrs .Taeobio and Gamblo were passengers from tho Coast.
PERSONAL. Mr Bolton, who was recently in charge of tho Makauri school, has been appointed to tho mastership of tho new school at Whangara. Mr W. B. Mill, tho well-known station manager of Tokornaru, is at present visiting Gisboruo. Mr G. F. Hindmarsh, of Tokornaru, who was recently elected to tho Waiapu Council, arrived in town last ovening. Mr J. D. G. Thornton, of Tokornaru, is on a visit to Gisborne.
ACCLIMATISATION MATTERS. As an outcome of tho resolution adopted at the last meeting of tho Gisborne Acclimatisation Society, efforts are being made to form a branch in the Waiapu County. Messrs A. B. Williams, E. R. Murphy, and W. O'Ryan are tho conveners of a meeting which it is proposed to hold at tho Waiapu County Council offico on Wednesday, July 23rd, at 2 p.m. It will bo romembered that the matter was referred to at tho Gisborne meeting by tho President, Mr Aeland Hood, who pointod out that it would greatly assist tho Waiapu Society if a brauch were formed at Waipiro, the northern district being allowed to expend all moneys received in tho way of subscriptions or other sources of revenue. Tho matter is one that should appeal to all sportsmen on the Coast, and wo hope to see the movement supported in the manner that it should bo. DEATH OF A RACEHORSE.
Mr F. Loomb, owner of tho racehorse Daphne Isles, received word yesterday from l’akarae that tho mare had died at that place, as tho result of bood poisoning, n.nhna irtloa raced at the Coastal meetings last March, and won the last event at°thc Tokomaru meeting. STOCK. SALES. Messrs Dalgety and Co. will hold their next salo of stock at Makarakaon the l<tn inst., when there should be a large yard; iug of cattle and sheep. Mr G. E. Eliott will conduct the sale.
