AN IMPUDENT SCAMP.
SWINDLES CHRISTCHURCH TRADESMEN.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Christchurch, last night. At the Magistrate’s Conrt this morning, W. A, Suttor was charged that on June 19 he fraudulently obtained XlO from H. Matson and Co., by means of valueless cheques. He was also charged with obtaining X 5 by tho same methods from E. G. Stavoloy, manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company. Suttor represented himself in Christchurch as a son of the Hon. F. L. Suttor, of New South Wales, and stated his purpose in Canterbury was to purchase fodder for tho New South Wales. Government. He obtained advances of money and left for Wellington, where he was arrested under the namo of Baird by Detective Cassells. He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on each eharge, the sentences being cumulative. The Magistrate remarked that it was one of the most impudent robberies he had heard of for some time.
