The result of the 1901-2 competition for medals offered for the heat rifle-shots in each island are : North Island: Gold medal for best shot in the island, Private Thomas Kerr, Victoria Rifles, Auckland, 109 points; gold and silver medal for second best shot, Private Carlson, Victoria Rifles, 108; silver medal for best shot in Auckland district, Color-Sergeant Aylett, Victoria Rifles, 104; ditto Wellington district; Sergeant Hobbs, Hastings Rifles, 108. South Island: Best shot in the island, Private Arthur Burford, Timaru Guards, 112; second best, Private * S Lindsay, Studholme Mounted Rifles, 109; best shot in Canterbury, Sergeant J. K. McDonald, Timaru Rifles, 108; Otago, Captain A. McKenzie, Queen’s Rifles, 108; Nelson, Private J, W. Ching, Wai* mea Rifles, 105.
