WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL.

At the monthly meeting of the Waiapu County Council there were present: Messrs Sherwood, A. B. Williams, Hindmarsli, and T. S. Williams. In the absence of Mr A. H. Wallis Mr Sherwood was voted to the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. The Department of Itoads wrote stating that local bodies must not anticipate their grants till authorised. —Deceived. Tho Gisborne Coronation and Opening of the Eailway Celebrations Committee wrote inviting the Chairman and members to attend the ceremony. —The clork was instructed to write and thank the Committee for their kind invitation.

Mr G. F. Powell wrote drawing attention to a culvert being broken down near Ihangia— Councillor A. B. Williams undertook to have it attended to. A communiealion was received from Mr Vincent Jackson, asking the Council to contribute £5 towards a track to his place at Pukerangiora.—lt was agreed on the motion of Cr A. B. Williams, seconded by Or. Henderson, that the amount be granted. HIKUWAI BRIDGES. Mr P. McLaughlin wrote stating that owing to various difficulties mentioned in receiving timber and other causes, no penalty should be imposed for over-time in connection with his contract for the Hikuwai brfdges.—lt was proposed by Cr A. B. Williams that, taking into account the considerations urged by Mr McLaughlin, no penalty should be imposed. —Seconded by Cr Hindmarsh and carried. engineer’s report. The Engineer reported that various contracts in the County had been completed, and that a small amount of day labor was being employed ; that further prospecting had been done for the Tauwhareparae road, and he was awaiting the report of the surveyor at present surveying the line before making any final recommendation.

The Council instructed the Engineer to have small repairs necessary made, to keep the roads open during the winter months.

Consideration of Or Henderson’s notice of motion l-e the Waiapu-Kawakawa road was postponed. NOTICE OF MOTION. Mr Hindmarsh gave notice to move at next meeting that the Council take the necessary steps to raise a loan under the Local Bodies Loans Act for constructing a road from Hikuwai to Tauwhareparae. The following accounts were passed for payment: T. G. Buchanan £6O 14s 2d, G. McDonald £54 4s, P. McLaughlin £504 2s 4d, G. Williams £39, and small accounts amounting to £25 ss.
