CORONATION MEMORIAL.

.(To Uie Editor of the Times). Sir.—Vviiat are Uie West Eiiders getting up such a mss, auoun ? ,'iney are surely, not expecting tne Coronation memorial to be erected at .Tuichentown. ,VVe nave given them tne Hospital, the Old Men’s Piome, the pound, tne brewery, tne recreation ground auu even the cemetery, to say nothing of tlie cycling track. It is true that we have all the hotels down Uiis end, but we also have Uie churches and Army, barracks, which should about equalise matters. I think the Mayor's suggestion •is about the best, to have .the rotunda on wheels, like the pie shop in Peel street, aud then we could all have a tune at qur / back doors. Seriously, what is the use of our beloved West End friends being so unreasonable ? It is certain that a site for the rotunda must be found somewhere, and for five years at - least the site should be at the lower extremity of the town, whether on the Point, in Peel street, or Lowe does not seem to me -.to matter very niuch as far as position goes. I thought the centre of Peel street to lie the best place for the next four or five years—until the railway is opened to the Motu—but the amount- of mud on exhibition in that street lately rather settles that quarter, when we bear in mind that t-he railway traffic will soon make the mud trouble more- pronounced. The one objection that seems to me Might be urged against the (Point is that the cost of making up‘the locality will be so great that a portion of that expense ought to be borne by the future generation that is to benefit- by it most. Still that is no reason why we should have any squabbling about tlie matter.—l am, etc., OLD HAND.

(To the Editor of the Times). Sir, —After all the fighting between the residents of the Point and West End, I am informed that both are to be ruled out of Court at Thursday’s meeting of the Borough Counc 1, and that the band rfljtunda is to be built on the river bank at the,end of Lowe street. To quote my friend Mark Antony, “ This is the, most unkindest cut of all,” and I/feel sure that rather than sucli a thing should take place that all the West- Enders will readily become “ Pointers,” or vice versa. Why should not he the public he allowed to select its own site, either by vot ng oc at a public meeting. If this were done everybody would be satisfied.—l am, etc., WEST END.
