A WINDFALL. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, last night. The Hospital Trustees received a wind-fall to-day in the shape of a cheque for £587 15s, a bequest from Uie late Mr William Hunter, who had been for some tme a patient in the hospital. He also left a bequest of £2OO for the Benevolent Institution. EDUCATIONAL MATTERS.
At the Education Board meeting today, the secretary submitted a return showing that the sum of £4450 was wanted immediately for additional class rooms to meet the increased staffs provided for by Public School Teachers’ Salaries Act. It was decided - to forward a copy to the Minister, and ask him to provide funds. At tlie same meeting a protest was received from the Arthur street school committee against the small salary offered for the vacancy as fourth assistant at the school, the position being one that required a trained teacher of scholarly. abilities. The Board decided to forward a letter to the Minister, and inform the Committee that the salary was fixed by the Act.
