One blockhouse in every six erected in connection with the war will be left-.
HIS MAJESTYTWO GREAT SPEECHES
By telegraph—Press AssociationCopyright. LONDON, June 1-1. His Majesty the K ng delivered two great speeches at St. Andrew’s.
They were given separately at Buckingham Palace to the Lord Mayor and members of the City Corporation, and the Chairman - and members of tne London County Council, wi.o were the bearers of peace congratulations. In the first speech His Majesty expressed thankfulness to Almighty God on the termination of the struggle. He said he recognised the sacrifices admirable fortitude, and spontaneous exertions of his subjects at Home and beyond the seas, contributing increased unity and strength to the Empire. He also praised the, valor and endurance of the troops, who had been opposed by a brave and determined people. He was rejoiced to think that the latter would uow become our friends.
He earnestly hoped by mutual cooperation, good-will, and better feelings, the past would be speedily replaced by. tics of loyalty and friendship. In his second speech lie said that lie looked to the introduction of a system of Government- which, with God’s ’ blessing, would bring to South Africa peace, with prosperity following its establishment in every quarter of the globe. He confidently believed that the good feeling displayed between those who were so recently opponents augured well for the future of the .vast country added to the dominions of the Crown.
BOTHA TO VISIT LONDON. By telegraph—Press AssociationCopyright. LONDON, June 14. Botha, De la Rey, Meyer, and Reitz are expected to arrive in Utretcht in July. Botha spends several weeks in London in August. It is expected that there will be five thousand additional surrenders before the 17th.
Many recent surrenderors. are young boys and old mqn.
