MANAWATU RAILWAY.
PULLING AGAINST THE STATE.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Palmerston North, last night. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerco to-night, it was resolved to call a public meeting to discuss the attitude of the Government towards tho Manawatu Railway Company, and a committee was appointed to arrange for tho meeting, and to promote a monster petition. The position taken up by the Chamber is that, whilo they have nothing to do with the merits of tho difference between the Government and the Company, they consider that if the subsequent developments are calculated to prejudice the interests of the district it is their duty to protest.
