A wedding of considerable interest to residents of tho East Coast took placo at the Holy Trinity Church yesterday, the uniting parties being Mr Archibald Robert Watson, of Waimata, son of Mr Robert Watson, solicitor, of Wanganui, formerly of Gisborne, and Miss Ella Mary Wallis, eldest daughter of Mr A. H. Wallis, of Kaiti. The Rev. H. W. Williams conducted tho service. Miss Wallis, who was given away by her father, was accompanied by her two little sisters, Mildred and Nora, who made pretty bridosmaids. Mr Harry Watson officiated as best man. The wedding party was limited to the members of the families interested, and at tho desire of the bride and bridegroom the ceremony was of a very quiet nature. Mr and Mrs Watson, who are wellknown throughout tho East Coast, have boon the recipients "of many hearty congratulations. Mr H. C. Clarke, of the firm of Clarke and Sons, who recently made a trip up tho Coast with Mr A. T. Hookey, tho firm’s local manager, has returned to town. In conversation with our reporter, he expressed himself as most favorably impressed by the reception he had received. He was also much struck with the country all along tho Coast and its future prospects. Mr Clarke considered it a shame that greater facilities were not given for dealing with Native lands, for, taken as a whole, the land was splendidly adapted for much closer settlement than at'present. They were fortunate in having very fine weather, and they saw tho country in its best aspects. Both Messrs Clarke and Hookey were loud in their praises of the excellent bridges constructed over the Hikuwai, Mr Hookey remarking, “ The bridges are a credit to the Waiapu County Council, and everybody who has had anything to do with them.” The roads travelled from Gisborne were in splendid order, considering the time of the year. ~ Mr F. A. Hargreaves has gamed yet another success as a photographer, having been awarded the New Zealand Graphic’s first prize for Colonial Life Study.
