ARRESTS FOR DRUNKENNESS.
NOT FLATTERING TO AUCKLAND.
[by telegraph, press association.] Auckland, last night. In giving evidence before the Licensing Committee this morning as to the increase of drunkenness in Auckland, Sergeant - Henry stated that in 1898 the number of arrests in the Auckland Police district ‘ was 617, whilst last year it was 1272. In the Auckland Licensing district, the arrests were 664 in 1893 as against 1429 last year.
