TWICE PBEVENTED FBOM GOING TO FBONT.

Many weeks ago three hundred bushmen who failed to bo included in South African contingents, cabled in the name t * of their representative, Mr McMillan, . -r—nfforing their services direct to tho Im'uien himg about •* the city for weeks, and no reply came. It now transpires that Lord Kitchener sent the following reply: “ Lord Tullrbardine will be glad to accept the men for tho Soottish Horse.” The Postal Department sent the reply to Sir William McMillan, in Melbourne, and as ho was unaware of tho Sydney movement and . thinking it was a request for more men, handed tho cablegram tc the Minister ot Defence Tbe latter informed Lord Kitehenor that the Government were raising their own contingents, and were unable to recruit others. On May 16th Lord Tullibardino cabled urging tho despatch of the men. This oable also went to the wrong McMillan, and a reply was sent, “ The Federal Government can do nothing with Lord Tullibardine’s proposal. The three hundred men wero thus roobod of a B acond chance of going to the front.
