DUE TO WANT OF FIRE ESCAPES

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, June 10. An appalling fire has occurred at the General Electric Lighting Company’s premises, a five-floored warehouse in Queen Victoria street, London. The fire took plaoe at five o’clook in the afternoon.

The buildings were seventy feet high, and the fire escapes only fifty. The latter were unable to relieve a number of girls on the upper floors, and many jumped sixty feet into a tarpaulin - held in the street.

Seven of the girls were grievously hurt Two were uninjured. ’ Eight girls and one boy were suffocated. There were several heroio rescues by firemen.
