SPORTING.

GRAND NATIONAL MEETING,

(Special to Times.; Auckland, last night. To-morrow (Saturday), tho North New Zealand Grand National Meeting will be concluded. Mr Evett, the handicapper, ha 9 been rather severe in his treatment, and in consequence the acceptances for some of tho events are very disappointing considering the valuo of the stakes. My tips for tho various ovonts are : Maiden Steeplccbasc: Cavaliero, with bis heavy impost of 13.10, may probably furnish the winner, with Clarion as the next best. Winter Welter : Battleaxe or Crusoe, with Highlander dangerous. Winter Steeplechase: Cannongate, Rufus, and Frost, in tho order named. Handicap Hurdles : Rufus, Paria, and Frost. Hunters’ Steeplechase: Tarragon or Tho Swimmer. Farewell Handicap : Takapuna, St. Olga, and Despatch.
