AUSTRALIA v. LANCASHIRE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, June 5. There was dull weather and a slow wicket for the match Australians v. Lancashire, which commenced at Manchester to-day, Tho attendance was disappointing.
Trumble, Saunders, and Noble were omitted from tho Australian team. Tho Lancashire teams consists of Maclaren, Steel, Iccles, Hartley, Tyldesley, Sharp, Barnes, Webb, Ward, Thomas, and Hallows.
Trumper and Duff were the opening combination, the former hitting vigorously. Steel bowled steadily. Duff made half-a-dozen, and gave Barnes a catch, which was accepted. One wicket for 30. Trumper displayed brilliant style, punishing Barnes severely. Hill joined him,' and tho scoring continued. When the century was up a change in the bowling was made, Webb going on, which had tho effect of dissolving the partnership. Trumper gave a catch to Maclaren. His score included twelve tourers. It was a ohanceless innings. Two wickets for 109. Gregory did not remain long, being caught at cover-point by Hartley. Three for 128. After lunch Hill was caught at shortleg by Webb. Four wickets for 1-19. Another eight runs to the total saw Darling’s middle stump down. Armstrong and Hopkius partnered. Tho latter scored five fourers quickly, and was then bowled by Sharp. Six for 203. Kelly, with Armstrong, played moderate cricket. Rain stopped play at 4.15 p.nj. The scores are:—

AUSTRALIANS HAVE SEVEN WICKETS DOWN FOR 356. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Juno 5. Play was resumed after a delay of halfan hour. When his score stood at thirtyseven Armstrong gave Maclaren a chance in the slips, but it was not acceptod. The batsmen continued active, but after a short interval rain again commenced, causing a second delay of half-an-hour. Resuming, Kelly kept the field moving, his score mounting rapidly. With seventyfive to his credit ho was clean bowled by Hallows. His innings was characterised by much vigor and fine driving. Tho partnership lastod 105 miDutes. Seven wickets for 335. Carter joined Armstrong whon tho latter’s total was sovenly-two, and tho pair played out to time. When tho stumps wero drawn tho record was seven wickots for 356 runs. Armstrong was one hundred and sixty minutes at the wickets. Though he played aggressivo cricket ho nover appeared really easy.
