Trumble, Carter, and Saunders wore omitted from tho Australian team. OiviDg to the condition of tno ground, play was late in starting. Darling won tho toss, and decided to bat. Ilirst and Rhodes commenced tho attack to Huff and Trumper. The former played lute at one of Hirst’s, and lost his middle stump. Hill came next, but was again unlucky, giving Brown a catch in the deep-held before be got fairly going. Trumper, playing excellently, punished Rhodes freely. Two wickets were down for 42 at the luuchoon adjournment, tbo scores being:—

Gregory partnered Trumper, but his stay was brief, being cleverly caught at short-leg by Jackson. Three wickets for 56. Trumper ended an excellent innings by placiDg Jackson into Denton's hands at long on. Four wickets for 64. Without addition to the score Darling was dismissed by Washington at mid on with a superb left-handed catch. Noble failed to score. He was cleverly caught in tho slips by Tunnicliffo. Six wickots for 65. Armstrong and Hopkins made a bit of a stand, but a separation came at 76. Denton at long-on, caught Armstrong off Jackson. Seven wickots for 76.

London, June 2. Hopkins played Jackson on to the wicket. Eight wickets for 102. The partnership with Kelly produced 26. Jones was caught at cover-point by Haigh, after a vigorous and lucky innings. Nino wicketß for 129. The partners put on 20 in twelve minutes. Kelly then succumbed to a bailor. The innings lasted two hours and twenty ruinntes. THE YORKSHIRE INNINGS. TunniCliffe and Brown opened the Yorkshire innings. The former made a single, and then gave Armstrong an easy catch in the slips. One for 5. Play was again delayed owing to the encroachment of the crowd. "'There was great difficulty experienced in driving them back anywhere near tho proper boundary. Brown wag bowlod by Noble, Donton, who was with him, was hitting finely. Two wickets for 47. Denton continued easy boundary hits, but Hill, who failed in one attempt to catch him, succeeded with a second one at third man. Three wickets for 48.
