PERNICIOUS TRUSTS.
THE MILLING MONOPOLY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. The following motions were carried at an open-air meeting held in the Cathedral Square last evening under the auspices of the Canterbury Trades’ and Labor Council: “ That this meeting requests the Government and Parliament of the colony to pass legislation during the next session, making it illegal to form trusts and monopolies in connection with articles of food, and also requests Government to establish a State flour mill or mills ; that this meeting is of opinion that the flour milling, trust is a menace to the community, and, as a means of in some measure counteracting its influence, urges upon the Canterbury Working Men’s Co-operative Society the necessity for immediately establishing a bakery branch of their business, and a mill, if necessary, we undertaking in return to give one or both projects financial support, and promise to use articles manufactured by the Society.”
