A rather sensational bolt occurred a few minutes before noon, when two horses attached to the Hastings coach bolted, and got on to tho footpath in tho busiest part of Hastings street. Thoy galloped along under the verandahs for about 250 yards, smashing several verandah posts and gas globes on route, and finally collided with a telegraph polo in front of tho Masonic Hotel, tho coaeh being smashed, and one of the horses so badly hurt that ho had to bo killed. Although thero was a largo number of people in this street at the time none were hurt, except the driver, who, in endeavoring to stop the runaways, was hurt by the wheel passing over his foot. Christchurch, last night. Tho Canterbury College Board of Governors decided to appoint Dr Evans Professor of Chemistry and Physics, at a salary of £6OO per year. At the meeting of ratepayers of Christchurch City, it was decided to raise a special supply scheme, aDd to request tho City Council to preparo a schome for a larger supply later on. At a meeting of the Cricket Council tho secretary reported that guarantees had been received from nearly all the Associations for a visit of Lord Hawke’s team. Somo letters conveying the impression that ono or two Associations were not clear regarding the exact terms of the guarantee, it was decided that a copy of the resolutions carried at last meeting, giving the terms, bo sent to each Associa-

tion. It was resolved that a match be arranged for Lord Hawke’s team at South Canterbury provided the necessary guarantee bo forthcoming. Ashburton, last night. Tho Borough Council to-night voted £75 to tho Coronation Celebrations Committee, not less than £25 to be spent on a permanent memorial. The Council also resolved itself into a committee to make arrangements for tho celebration of peace.
