MODERN ARMAMENT.
THE JOHNSON CAP.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, May 26. The Lords of the Admiralty witnessed an impressive experiment at Barrow-on-Furniss. A six-inch gun, fitted with the Johnson cap, similar to the onesjused by the French, Russian, German, and American navies, shot and perforated a six-inch Krupp plate and its backing while the uncapped shot failed to perforate it. The capped shot also penetrated a twelve-inch plate, remaining fixed in the backing. The Times says that the experiment shows tho necessity for the immediate improvement of the secondary armaments.
