AUSTRALIANS v. OXFORD. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrigbj London, May 28. Thero was dull, oppressive weather, and the attendance nt the Oxford match was only moderate. Despite twelve hours’ rain yesterday, tho wicket was surprisingly firm. Trumble, Kelly, and Howell stood out) of tho Australian team. Oxford won tho toss, Marsham and Dillon commencing tho innings. Both had 21 to their credit, when Marsham skied one to mid-off, Hopkins catching it. Wyld added n single, and gave Saunders au easy chance at mid-on. Two wickets for 43. Dillon, without adding anything to the total, was caught at square-leg by Darling. Voss was dismissed by a yorker in Armstrong’s first over. Four for 66.
After lunch, Evans and Bonbam-Carter wero partnered, but Evans was caught easily at short-leg by Trumper. The wicket was slow and fairly easy, but the wickets fell in rapid succession, and tho innings closed for 77. After lunch, six wickets fell for 17 runs in forty minutes. Total 77 Noblo took flvo wickets for 38, Jones one for 29, Armstrong four for 9. Trumper aud Duff opened tho Australian innings with fino, forcing cricket. The bowling was poor, and they scored rapidly. Seventy-eight runs wero produced in twelve overs, with tho most brilliant play.
Duff was caught at tho wickets by Findly after a free and Bkilful innings. One for 108. Oxford's score was passed as tho result of 35 minutes’ play. The bowling was poor and demoralised. Trumpet' was caught at cover-point by Wyld, after a brilliant, sterling innings with fine pulling. He gave a chance at 86, and another to mid-on at 117, both skyers. His seoro included fifteen tourers and six threes. Two wickets for 218. Hill gavo a sound display, except one mishit. Ho was very Btrong on the leg side. Whon stumps were drawn, the Australians had lost two wickets for 227. The scores wero:—

At luncheon the innings was closed, tho Australians having six wickets down for 314. Ernsthausen took two for 80, Whately wo for 76, Kelly one for 21, Evans one for 22, Williams nil for 63. When Oxford commenced their second innings tho condition of tho pitch had become moro difficult, the first three wickets falling for 33, Voss, Williams, and Kelly making tho bulk of tho runs. The latter gave one chance to Hill at tho slips. Oxford—2nd innings.
